Our Douglas County Day Services Coordinator, Kofi Boye-Doe and his good friend Andrew, represented GoodLife at the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) advocacy symposium. Kofi and Andrew also met virtually with the office of senator Jerry Moran in order to bring attention to the importance of direct support professionals in our society and highlight the challenges they face.
NADSP is working to advance two bills through Congress:
- S.1132 – Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act
- This bill requires the Office of Management and Budget to consider establishing a separate category within the Standard Occupational Classification system for direct support professionals (i.e., individuals who provide services to promote independence in individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability) for data reporting purposes.
- The Long-term Care Workforce Support Act
- This bill would ensure that caregiving can be a sustainable, lifelong career by providing substantial new funding to support workers in every part of the long-term care industry, from nursing homes to home-care to assisted living facilities.
