What is the PBSS Certification Training?

The Positive Behavior Supports Specialist (PBSS) Certification training is a comprehensive three-day training designed to equip professionals with the tools and knowledge to effectively support individuals with challenging behaviors. This training empowers you with practical skills and proven strategies for success.

You’ll gain the ability to develop first-rate, function-based Behavioral Support Plans as well as the ability to teach these skills and strategies to your colleagues. Together, we can make a meaningful, long-term, positive difference in your clients’ lives.

Healthy Behavioral Practices:

Expert Training PLUS Intro to Behavior Support Plans

This presentation will include a description of the four key Healthy Behavioral practices w/ video exemplars, training on how to implement behavioral skills training (BST), training on delivering effective feedback, and an overview of competency check tools (including BST cheat sheet, job-aid posters, etc., which will be included with the training materials).

Behavior Support Plans:

A Writing Guide

Includes presentations/coursework plus a 2-hour interactive training that will cover how to conduct an indirect functional assessment, how to use the results to derive a BSP, best-practice prevention and intervention procedures, and procedures for implementation and ongoing monitoring.

Outcomes:

Understand the key elements of an effective Behavior Support Plan.

Understand common function-based intervention approaches and how to conduct a Functional Behavior Assessment.

Meet Our Trainers:

Nicole Kanaman, Ph.D., BCBA
Nichole Kanaman, Ph.D., BCBA
Chief Operations Officer

Dr. Nicole Kanaman earned her bachelor’s degree in applied behavior analysis at the University of North Texas, her master’s degree in applied behavioral sciences at the University of Kansas (KU), and her Ph.D. in behavioral psychology at KU. Read her dissertation here.

Nicole is a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) at the doctoral level and has provided behavioral services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the lifespan for over 10 years. Her research interests are centered around addressing the gap often found between published literature and direct clinical services, and she pursues this line of research at GoodLife Innovations in collaboration with the organization’s partnership with the Department of Applied Behavioral Sciences at KU.

Marissa Kamlowsky, Ph.D., BCBA
Marissa Kamlowsky, Ph.D., BCBA
Director of Clinical Services

Dr. Marissa Kamlowsky earned her Ph.D. in Behavioral Psychology at The University of Kansas, specializing in assessing and treating challenging behavior in individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and staff training. She holds an M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis from Florida Institute of Technology and a B.A. in Psychology from Ohio University.

With extensive experience in clinical support for individuals with autism and related disabilities, Marissa currently serves as the Director of Clinical Services for GoodLife Innovations, overseeing multiple departments. She is passionate about developing effective, sustainable training systems and integrating research-based methods into clinical practice. Her research includes assessing and treating challenging behaviors and teaching adaptive and self-advocacy skills to adults with I/DD.

Trainer Lisa Popelka
Lisa Popelka, MS., BCBA
Assistant Director of Behavioral Services

Lisa Popelka holds a Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis from the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Avila University. She serves on the Legislative Committee for the Kansas Association for Behavior Analysis. Her practicum experience focused on supporting individuals with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities and assisting their direct support staff and families in enhancing behavioral, social, communication, and learning skills. Currently, Lisa is the Assistant Director of Behavioral Services at GoodLife Innovations. In this role, she continues to share her expertise by conducting skill assessments and training staff on best practices, positively impacting both individuals and the direct support staff that serve them.
